There has always been a tradition associated with the start of the Champions League group stage matches in September, and it will be the same again this season. This season is a different one from previous ones due to the fact that the rest of the calendar will be quite compressed in light of the World Cup just around the corner.
When does the Champions League begin? Group stage kickoff
In just a few weeks following the draw, we will be able to see the first matchday take place on Sept. 6-7. In order to complete all the group stage games before the World Cup break takes place in Qatar, all six rounds of group games will be played.
The players are to be released from their national teams in preparation for the World Cup on Monday, Nov. 14. This means that the final Champions League group matches will be played on Nov. 1-2, which fits in perfectly with the World Cup.
The Champions League group stage has traditionally included a round of matches in December, but this year due to the World Cup schedule, the round of matches has been moved up to September. When and where will the 2023 Champions League final be held?
There will be no road that will lead to Turkey during the tournament in 2022/23.
Despite Liverpool’s love for the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, it is clear that the 2023 final is going to be held in a place that holds a lot of nostalgia for the club.
In 2005, the venue was the place where their famous Champions League triumph took place, in which they came back from 3-0 down to beat AC Milan on penalties after going 3-0 down at half-time.
