The FIFA World Cup 2022 is an upcoming international football tournament that will take place in Qatar from November 21, 2022, to December 18, 2022. During the qualification process, 32 teams will be selected to participate in the tournament. Of these 32 teams, only Qatar qualified as the tournament’s host nation, while the remaining 31 teams will be chosen on the basis of the qualification process. There will be 64 matches in total throughout the duration of the tournament, the 32 teams will be divided into 8 groups of four teams each. Once the official squads of the qualified teams are announced, the tournament will begin. The same is done by means of two lists, the first being the release list, and the second being the final list. Below is a description of the details of the same:
Fifa World Cup 2022 Players Release list
FIFA requires that each team that qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup provide FIFA with a list of no more than 35 players. This list is referred to as the ‘release list’. As well as the player’s full name(s), all first names, popular name, name on the shirt, place, and date of birth, passport number and expiration date, club name and country, height, weight, number of caps attained, and number of goals scored at an international level, the list should include other pertinent information.
Fifa World Cup 2022 Players Final list
Upon fulfilling this requirement, every team shall have to provide FIFA with a final list of 23 players (including three goalkeepers) and 27 officials. This list is referred to as the final list. It is hoped that the players on the release list will be selected from the players on the final list. Only the 23 players on the final list of players will be allowed to compete in the final competition.
Fifa World Cup 2022 Replacement of player
Up to 24 hours before his team’s first match, a player listed on the final list may only be replaced in case of serious injury or illness. A replacement player does not necessarily need to be assigned a position in the release list. The replacement players will be nominated by the participating team, who will then inform FIFA accordingly (including all of the information about the replacement players as well as a copy of their passport). As soon as FIFA Medical receives and accepts a written detailed medical assessment in at least one of the four official languages of FIFA, FIFA Medical, represented by the FIFA General Medical Officer, will determine if a player has sustained a sufficient injury or illness to prevent them from continuing their participation in the tournament. In the event of a replacement player, the number of the player to be replaced shall be assigned to the replacement player.
The final list of 23 players and 27 officials will constitute the official delegation of the team.
