FIFA World Cup 2022 will feature footballs made in Sialkot

The Secretary General of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr.Qasim Malik, announced that the Al Rihla football, The Pride For Pakistan, which is produced in Sialkot, will be used at the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

In a press conference held on Sunday, the SCCI leader said that the footballs that will be used officially in the upcoming World Cup were produced by a Sialkot-based leading exports firm. The SCCI leader said it would bring great honor and pride to the city and to Pakistan in general.

The footballs would be provided by Forward Sports for the third time in a row at the FIFA World Cup, according to Malik. According to him, the design of the football was inspired by Qatar’s culture and was meant to represent that culture.

A spokesperson for the company stated that since the world was currently moving towards sustainability, bio-based recycled materials were used in the manufacture of the footballs.

There was no use of solvent chemicals in the manufacturing of the product, rather there was a use of water-based chemicals, which are non-polluting to the environment, he explained. There were 20 panels in the ball, and he said it was voted one of the best footballs in the world by the judges.

Traditionally, the footballs used in the World Cup have been hand-stitched. But starting in the 2014 World Cup, new technology known as “thermos bonding” was introduced as a replacement for hand-stitched footballs.
